The 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR was also made available in 2009 as an open-top limited-production model, the Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss. The SLR is a result of a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren. SLR stands for "Sport Leicht Rennsport" (Sport Light Racing), homage to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR which served as the inspiration for the SLR.

In 2010, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was introduced as the successor to the SLR. Nontheless, it uses a 5.4L Twin-Screw Supercharged V8 M155 SLR, producing 617 bhp and 575 lb.ft of torque, weighing at 1751 kg, and it uses a 5-Speed automatic transmission.
