2020 Audi TT Roadster Convertible (Review)

The 2020 Audi TT and TTS are small luxury cars that offer sporty performance and sleek styling. The TTS is offered solely as a coupe, while the TT comes in coupe and convertible body styles. As is typically the case with vehicles that bear the Audi nameplate, these models treat passengers to a cabin that's home to modern design and top-notch materials. All-wheel drive is standard, and this provides improved traction in rain and snow. Both the TT and TTS are available with a modern selection of tech amenities. These models deserve a spot on your list if you're in the market for a small sports car with a gorgeous face and a fun-to-drive disposition.

For the 2020 model year, Audi's TT and TTS add a vehicle immobilizer with an anti-theft alarm system and motion sensor. The available Black Optic package now includes 20-inch wheels in a two-color high-gloss anthracite finish with summer tires. Finally, both cars add Pulse Orange as an exterior color.
Pricing and Which One to Buy

Audi's TT coupe rides on 18-inch wheels, and it comes standard with exterior features such as automatic LED headlights, front and rear fog lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and heated power-adjustable side-view mirrors with an auto-dimming capability. The cabin provides standard features such as heated power-adjustable front seats, keyless entry and ignition, automatic climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The list of standard driver-assistance features includes front and rear parking sensors. We recommend adding blind-spot monitoring ($450), which brings the TT coupe's cost to $46,945.

With the 2020 Audi TT, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine lives under the hood, and it generates 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The TTS gets a beefed-up version of this engine that's tuned to deliver 288 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Both cars are governed by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with Quattro all-wheel drive. Whether you choose the TT or the TTS, you'll enjoy supple, responsive handling. These cars offer performance designed to elevate even banalest journeys.

According to the EPA, both body styles of the 2020 Audi TT achieve fuel economy of 23/31 mpg city/highway. That makes the TT a more fuel-efficient choice than rival sports cars such as the Mercedes-Benz SLC-class (20/29 mpg). With the TTS, the EPA estimates gas mileage of 23/29 mpg.

Both the TT and TTS provide cabins that are temples of chic minimalism. The design is graceful and contemporary, and premium materials are used throughout. The front seats offer more comfort than you'd likely expect from a small sports car. Technically, this Audi's coupe body style seats four, but the cramped rear seat is best left for luggage and grocery bags. With both body styles, there's a dearth of storage nooks within the cabin. The convertible variant of this Audi provides 7.5 cubic feet of cargo space. With the coupe body style, cargo capacity jumps to 12 cubic feet.

Audi has equipped the TT and TTS with an up-to-date assortment of tech features. Both SiriusXM satellite radio is standard, as is as a nine-speaker sound system. The sound system has a CD player and two SD card readers, and there are two illuminated USB inputs on hand for easy connectivity. All models come with Bluetooth phone and music streaming. The list of optional tech amenities includes an integrated navigation system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration.

Neither the 2020 Audi TT nor the TTS has been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Audi's TT and TTS aren't available with forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, or drowsy-driver monitoring. These features are standard on the Mercedes-Benz SLC-class. Key safety features include:
