Akira Yoshino is a Nobel Laureate known best for his work with lithium-ion batteries. While these batteries are the best competitor—so far—in a world that wants to replace fossil fuels, Yoshino believes these batteries could create a logjam among industries in need of their power. Most notably, he believes that Apple ($AAPL@US) could lead a convergence among the automotive and IT industries as it works on its autonomous vehicle. With practically serving as the final stumbling block, Yoshino notes that we might view electric cars differently when they become both economical and manageable.
