Most car enthusiasts have a ‘hero poster’ on their bedroom walls as they grow up. For ATP tennis star, Hubert (Hubi) Hurkacz, who heads to the US Open Championships this week, it was the iconic McLaren P1TM hypercar – specifically P1 OOV, which is still part of McLaren’s own heritage fleet – that took pride of place and drove his childhood dreams at home in Wroclaw, Poland.
Teaming up with McLaren Beverly Hills and its O’Gara Motorsports division at The Thermal Club, a private, member’s only track in California, McLaren, The Americas managed to bring Hubi’s ‘bucket list’ wish to life by giving him a day of expert tuition behind the wheel of the McLaren 765LT Spider.
Instead of hitting serves at over 150mph, the tennis ace was able to get behind the wheel of the pinnacle of ‘Longtail’ performance and experience similar speeds as he pushed the supercar to the limits around the desert track.
