Video Info:

So in Jujutsu Kaisen there have been 8 major time periods, and in each era, sorcerers have had different roles. For example in the past they were basically supervillains, in the present they’re the ones who fight curses and in the future they negotiate with aliens. That’s why in today’s video we’re gonna examine each era, to see how Jujutsu society, has evolved over the ages. Ok so flashing back nearly 2000 years, the first known use of sorcery happened, during the Civil War of Wa. This war was a real thing that happened in ancient Japan, and in JJK, there was at least one sorcerer who was there. The name of that sorcerer was Dhruv, and he had a cursed technique that was comparable to Sukuna. To put it simply Dhruv’s power let him slash anyone who entered his domain and because of the way he used it, the size of his domain was massive. This meant he had potential to cut down armies by himself, and during the Civil War, Dhruv conquered the whole of Japan. Now I should point out the story doesn’t say how long this lasted but when we look at real historical records, there is some relevant info. According to historians from China, Japan was at war with itself for decades until a sorcerer called Himiko appeared. One book claimed that Himiko used magic and sorcery to end the conflict and united the country under her leadership. Another source claimed that she used spirits to confuse people and I guess from a JJK point of view that sounds a little bit like Geto’s technique. Whatever the truth may be, the fact is Himiko became queen at the end of the civil war, which means that in Jujutsu Kaisen, Dhruv was defeated by her or by another sorcerer at the time. Besides that we don’t know too much about this time period but it’s clear this era of jujutsu had no regulations, and sorcerers were free to takeover the whole country. Because of this we’ll refer to this period as the dark age of jujutsu, where an organised jujutsu society didn’t exist. Now if we move forward by over 500 years, the next important era is the Nara Period. This era is when Tengen became famous, as people started to worship her like a God. For context Tengen is immortal thanks to her cursed technique and when the Nara period began she was over two-hundred years old. If you’re wondering how we know this, it’s because in history there’s been 3 times, that Tengen has had to merge with someone. These mergers are what she does to repair her ageing body and they take place once every 500 years. If we do the math, the newest merger was supposed to happen in two-thousand-six, meaning the previous merger was in fifteen-oh-six, the one before that in one-thousand-six and Tengen was born in the year 506. For that reason, it’s not surprising that people saw her as a God, since like I said she was over 200 years old at the start of the Nara Period. During this era her followers made their own religion and they called it the Time Vessel Association aka The Star Religious Group. Members of this faith were described as monotheists, which is a fancy way of saying Tengen was the one and only God they believed in. Later in the video we’ll talk more about their other beliefs but in the Nara Period there’s not much else we can say about them. Now when it comes to Tengen herself, this era is when she helped to spread Buddhism across Japan and she also spread her beliefs about Jujutsu.
